1. what does the +v do for me?
In some channels it is customary not to give everyone the right to speak. These so-called moderated channels therefore have the restriction that some users are only allowed to read. On ShilayaDE, a +v (voice) is given for the sake of politeness.
2. why IRC and no other chat?
IRC is the oldest chat protocol. It is therefore also the most mature. However, this maturity is also in line with complexity. IRC makes it possible to write your own scripts and use so-called “services”. Many “beginners” are initially put off when they see the possibilities that IRC offers. However, after a period of familiarisation, this has always been received positively.
